WhatsApp Payments UPI-based feature now live in India: How to send your first payment on WhatsApp

WhatsApp Payments: A step-by-step guide on how to get started
WhatsApp, the most widely used messaging service across globe, has started rolling out the UPI-based Payments feature in India which will mean that you will be able to send money to your friends and family right from WhatsApp. WhatsApp is already popular with Indian users across different age groups who love to send "good morning" texts to kick start the day and adding the Payments feature just makes more sense for the messaging app.
The rollout of WhatsApp Payments has started from India which means that the company is looking to end the dominance of apps like Paytm, Google Tez, and other digital wallet app that have been around for a long time.

With over 200 million monthly active users in India, WhatsApp shouldn't face any trouble bringing its large user base to get a taste of Payments feature. Facebook's move to bring Payments feature to India first on WhatsApp clearly seems a way to cash in on the digital payment in its early days. The WhatsApp Payments feature was being tested as a beta feature with select users but now more users have started receiving the feature.

It was no secret as WhatsApp was reportedly in talks with top Indian banks for months to integrate Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Unlike previously believed, the WhatsApp Payments feature is being rolled out to both Android as well as iOS users simultaneously.

How to send money using WhatsApp payments

The WhatsApp Payments will be limited to peer-to-peer payment and does not offer merchant payment, as of now.

Before getting started with WhatsApp Payments, users will have to note few things like:
  • For WhatsApp Payments to work, both sender and receiver should be running the latest WhatsApp version as well as have WhatsApp Payments option enabled.
  • Another important fact is WhatsApp number should be same as your mobile number linked to your bank account with UPI option support as well.
WhatsApp users who have already received the feature can head to Settings > Payments to start setting up the Payments option. As of now, WhatsApp Payments is working on an invite basis which means those who have received the Payments feature can activate for others by choosing the option from chat.

On tapping the option, users will be welcomed by a new message saying "Send and receive money securely with UPI" and users need to tap on "Accept and Continue" to start accepting the WhatsApp Payments. The users will be also offered the Terms and Privacy policy and the payment provider's terms and privacy policy which they can read or just skip to the next option.

Users then will have to verify their phone numbers by choosing "Verify via SMS" and that can be done by tapping on the green coloured send button on the next screen to send a verification SMS from your phone. It's worth noting that the SMS charges will be applicable.

Once the WhatsApp number has been configured then add your bank from a vast list of over 70 banks. WhatsApp has managed to get all major banks for its new WhatsApp Payments feature on-board which include Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Yes Bank, Airtel Payments Bank, Allahabad Bank, Andhra Bank, Bank of Baroda, and more.

If you already have UPI option enabled with your bank then you will need to verify with SMS.

New users need not to worry as WhatsApp Payments offers an option to create a UPI accountwith a pin (much like your ATM pin) for authenticating the payments. This can be done in less than 10 minutes by just following the instructions.

Users need to remember that the WhatsApp number and the mobile number registered with your bank should be same or else you need to get it linked with your bank before proceeding with WhatsApp Payments.

Now, how to send money to a friend using Payments feature on WhatsApp. To start sending money, tap on menu in any chat to access Payment option apart from other options like send photo, video, file, contact, or location.

Choose a WhatsApp contact you want to send your first payment, select the bank account and amount > Enter the UPI Pin > Money sent. One of the biggest highlight of the WhatsApp Payment is it uses UPI to send money in no time.

Once the transaction is complete, WhatsApp also notifies the user about the money sent to a contact. You can also keep a track of Payments from within the app, by using the Payment history option in WhatsApp.

Try the methods above and let us know in the comments section whether the payment went through or not.

WhatsApp Business Now Available in India

WhatsApp Business App Now Available in India

HIGHLIGHTS

  • WhatsApp Business app is available for free download in India
  • The app helps small businesses easily communicate with their customers
  • WhatsApp for Business initiative was announced back in September 2017
Just days after its initial rollout, the WhatsApp Business app has now debuted in India. The standalone app offers a simple tool for small businesses to let them communicate with their clients and customers in an easy way. Facebook-owned WhatsAppannounced the plans to kick off its WhatsApp for Business initiative back in September last year and launched a pilot by partnering with companiessuch as BookMyShow, Netflix, and MakeMyTrip. The new app, for small businesses, arrived first in a handful of markets, including Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, the UK, and the US, on Friday. Interestingly, the app was initially tested in India and Brazil ahead of its public release.
The WhatsApp Business app is now available for free download via Google Play in India. It is compatible with devices running Android 4.0.3 and above. A version with similar features is also expected to be available for iOS devices in the coming future.
Targeted at small businesses, the WhatsApp Business app allows companies to connect with their customers and be a part of the messaging platform that has over 1.3 billion users worldwide. Unlike the original WhatsApp app, the business-centric offering allows businesses to create their own profiles with information such as business description, email, or store addresses, and website. It also provides smart messaging tools to let businesses use quick replies and give fast answers to frequently asked questions. The app also has options to send greetings messages to new customers and set away messages when the companies are busy. Further, there are metrics such as the number of messages read and WhatsApp Web support to let companies send and receive messages directly through a desktop Alongside delivering the features to enable corporate communication for small businesses, WhatsApp is in plans to mark some businesses as Confirmed Accounts over time. Citing a study conducted by Morning Consult, more than 80 percent of small businesses in India and Brazil consider WhatsApp helps them communicate with customers and grow their business. As many as 84 percent of SMBs (Small and Medium Businesses), particularly from India, think that WhatsApp helps them communicate with customers, while 80 percent of Indian SMBs believe that WhatsApp helps them grow their business, as per the data provided by the company last week.

In terms of some major similarities with the original WhatsApp, the WhatsApp Business app allows businesses to set privacy for their profile photo, about information, and status as well as lets them block any of their contacts and enable read receipts. The app also has a live location feature that helps companies share their live location with their clients and customers. It additionally allows businesses to make voice and video calls. Notably, the app offers end-to-end encryption for all the messages and calls it circulates to restrict any third-party access.
We've reached out WhatsApp for more clarity regarding the rollout and will update this space accordingly.
As per the official data provided in February last year, WhatsApp has over 200 million monthly active users in India. The instant messaging platform is making things difficult for its rival by introducing compelling features such as Delete for Everyone, YouTube integration, and Notification Channel support for Android Oreo devices. Moreover, it is exploring new avenues and is apparently even set to integrate a UPI payments feature in the near future.

WhatsApp business application rolling out

WhatsApp launches Business application; all

you need to know to get started

WhatsApp launches Business application; all you need to know to get started

  • Last year in September, WhatsApp came up with a new pilot application built specifically for Businesses. Few popular names in India like BookMyShow had participated in the pilot phase. Now, the company has finally started launching the service for more countries and users.

  • WhatsApp Business will be a separate application from the instant messaging platform which will authorize businesses to communicate with their consumer/client on a personal level in the form of a chat. For now, the service only extends to small businesses. However, WhatsApp plans to use a similar or same service for bigger companies. For bigger enterprises, WhatsApp might charge for specific tools that will help them analyse and improvise  their businesses.
  • How to start using the App?

  •  application which can be downloaded in addition to the normal messenger application. However, the user will have to register using a different number for the business. Currently, the application is only available on Android and is only rolling out to supported markets. In India, the app has not been listed on Google's Play Store.

  • the owner of the account or the business will be able to setup an elaborate profile with

  • rucial information like website, location, contacts etc.
  • An Away feature will leave a preset message for the customer texting you out of business hours. The message can even contain instructions or answers to frequently asked questions.
  • A business account can also be setup using a landline phone number. The account holder will only have to choose the "call me" option at the verification step.
  • The account holder can also use WhatsApp Web for additional efficiency in interacting with customers/clients.
  • WhatsApp Business will allow these accounts to analyse user activity on a mass level. For instance, they can know the number of messages that have been read.
  • Other than these, the application will have all the features found on the normal messenger app.

If a user tries to restore a WhatsApp Messenger back up to WhatsApp Business, the former app won't be able to restore the same back up on the Messenger.
For normal Messenger users, WhatsApp claims that there will be no major change. The official blog states "people can continue using WhatsApp as usual - there's no need to download anything new. And people will continue to have full control over the messages they receive, with the ability to block any number, including businesses, as well as report spam.".

YouTube New Monetization policy 2018

YouTube new monetization policy 2018_ shocked

YouTube is tightening the rules around its partner program and raising the requirements that a channel/creator must meet in order to monetize videos. Effective immediately, to apply for monetization (and have ads attached to videos), creators must have tallied 4,000 hours of overall watch time on their channel within the past  12 months and have at least 1,000 subscribers.
Watch details in video (click here)
YouTube will enforce the new eligibility policy for all existing channels as of February 20th, meaning that channels that fail to meet the threshold will no longer be able to make income from ads.

Previously, the standard for joining YouTube’s Partner Program was 10,000 public views — without any specific requirement for annual viewing hours. This change will no doubt make it harder for new, smaller channels to reach monetization, but YouTube says it’s an important way of buying itself more time to see who’s following the company’s guidelines and disqualify “bad actors.”
